How are braces installed?

A braces system is an orthodontic device designed to correct the bite, align the teeth, and improve the aesthetics of the smile. Modern systems are metal, ceramic, sapphire, and lingual, which allows you to choose the best option for each patient.

A braces system is recommended for:

• malocclusion;
• crowding of teeth or large gaps between the teeth;

Stages of installing braces:

3. Insertion of an orthodontic archwire. An archwire is inserted through the slots of the braces, which creates pressure on the teeth to gradually move them. The archwire can be metal or flexible, depending on the stage of treatment.

4. Fixation of the archwire. The archwire is fixed with ligatures (small rubber bands or wire loops) or self-locking locks. Proper fixation ensures accurate tooth movement and patient comfort.

5. Check and correction. The orthodontist checks the correct location of the brackets and archwire, and if necessary, corrects the position for maximum effect and comfort.

7. Patient instruction. The patient receives recommendations on care of the braces, hygiene rules, nutrition and actions in case of discomfort or system breakdown.

Care and monitoring of brace systems

After installing braces, sometimes discomfort, irritation of the mucous membrane, slight pain after correction of the arch occur. Cracks in the braces or peeling of the adhesive occur rarely, which requires an urgent visit to the orthodontist. The patient should brush his teeth with a special brush, use dental floss and rinses. Hard and sticky products should be avoided. Regular visits to the orthodontist (once every 4–6 weeks) allow for correction of the arch, control of tooth movement and timely elimination of problems. The duration of wearing braces depends on the complexity of the bite anomaly, usually from 12 to 24 months.
