Modern orthodontics today is capable of a great deal: correcting bites of any complexity and at any age, taking into account not only the external aesthetics of the dental arch but also the functionality of the jaws, facial asymmetry, speech accuracy, and more. When the bite is correct, a balanced and symmetrical load is distributed across the jaws. By correcting the bite, one can prevent enamel wear, chipping and cracking, possible tooth loss, and even change facial features. This leads to the conclusion that orthodontic treatment is not only about aesthetics but also about overall health. Therefore, orthodontic issues should be addressed and not ignored.

The field of dentistry never stands still, and the “Sa-Nata” network of dental clinics always keeps pace with the times and stays up to date with the latest innovations and developments.

An alternative to braces – aligners – is rapidly gaining popularity. How effective are they, what are their usage features, what advantages do they have, and why are they chosen for bite correction? Our orthodontists shared their insights, and we’re passing them on to you in this article.

Aligners are removable orthodontic trays made of special flexible, hypoallergenic plastic with a transparent texture that makes them completely invisible on the teeth. The clear trays are unnoticeable when worn, cause no discomfort, and do not distort your speech. They should be worn throughout the day and while sleeping. Aligners can be easily removed for tooth brushing and eating.

How does it all work?

Diagnostics. As with any other dental treatment, everything begins with a detailed diagnosis. In this case, 3D computer diagnostics are performed using a Primescan Sirona intraoral scanner. No impressions are needed anymore, and the scanning process itself takes no more than 5–10 minutes of your time.

Treatment plan. The treatment plan is based on the results of the scan, with a visualized final result in the form of a 3D model. As mentioned earlier, the computer predicts the future position of the teeth at specific time intervals until the desired result is achieved, breaking the process into phases. For each phase, an individual pair of trays is designed, which should be replaced once every two weeks.

Approval and manufacturing. One of the many advantages of aligners is that you can immediately see what your treatment result will be and how much time it will take. The model of your future dream smile is approved by both the specialist and the patient, after which the manufacturing process begins. The “Sa-Nata” network independently produces aligners in its own digital dental laboratory “Sa-Nata Dynasty.” We select only the highest quality materials, control every stage of the manufacturing process, and work exclusively with modern, innovative equipment made by global market leaders.

During your next visit to the orthodontist, you receive several pairs of trays for the upcoming months. The specialist also provides detailed instructions on how to use and care for them and teaches you how to properly put on and remove the aligners.

Why should you choose aligners?

ортодонт
    • Completely invisible on the teeth, even while speaking

    • Oral hygiene routine remains unchanged

    • Quick adaptation and comfort in everyday use

    • The predicted final treatment result can be seen in advance

    • Aligners can correct a single tooth, several teeth, their tilt, or the entire dental arch

    • No emergency visits to the dentist are required, such asurgent appointments for broken wires or detached brackets

    • Aligners are completely hypoallergenic

    • Because the trays fit very tightly to the surface of the teeth, there is no irritation of the gums or oral mucosa

    • Since the trays are removable, you don’t need to drastically change your regular diet – it’s very convenient

What should you know about aligners?

элайнеры
    • You should wear your aligners for 20–22 hours a day, meaning all day and while sleeping. You can remove them during meals and while brushing your teeth. It’s allowed to drink water while wearing aligners.

    • To clean your teeth, simply remove the aligners, brush your teeth as usual, and put the aligners back on. Cleaning the trays is just as easy — simply use the same toothbrush and toothpaste.

    • Hot drinks should not be consumed while wearing aligners.

    • Do not wash aligners in hot water, as they may lose their shape. It’s best to use water at room temperature.

    • It’s recommended to avoid chewing gum while wearing aligners.

    • Every 14 days, you should switch to a new pair of individually made trays.

    • You should visit your orthodontist once every six weeks for a check-up and to monitor treatment progress.

    • Your specialist will provide you with a special storage case for your aligners. Always remove and put on your trays with clean hands.

In what cases are aligners prescribed?

В каких случаях назначают элайнеры?
    • Protruding jaw

    • Presence of significant gaps between teeth

    • A tooth or several teeth rotated in the wrong direction

    • Crowded teeth

    • Overlapping teeth

What are the contraindications for using aligners?

    • Presence of teeth that are still in the eruption stage

    • Presence of significant dental calculus (tartar)

    • Acute stage of periodontitis

    • Certain neurological disorders

    • Severe chronic diseases in the patient

It’s impossible to decide on your own whether to choose aligners or braces, as every patient’s clinical situation is highly individual. Detailed diagnostics and a professional assessment by a specialist – or sometimes even several specialists – are required. For example, in our clinic, orthodontists often work together with gnathologists. This approach ensures the selection of the most effective treatment method and helps prevent complications or unsuccessful outcomes.

Aligners can correct the entire dental arch as well as the misalignment of one or several teeth. However, only braces can handle severe jaw deformities and anomalies. Therefore, aligners are not suitable for everyone. To determine this, we recommend visiting our experienced orthodontists for a consultation and examination. The specialist will carefully study your clinical “picture,” and thanks to the comprehensive treatment approach at the “Sa-Nata” clinic, you will be professionally offered all possible solutions to your problem. For “Sa-Nata,” there are no unsolved questions or complex challenges!

Clear trays are made using a special computer program that calculates the individual dynamics of your teeth up to the final expected result and divides their movement into phases. Each set of aligners corresponds to a specific phase of tooth positioning. On average, for effective orthodontic treatment, a patient needs to change approximately 25 pairs of trays, replacing them every 14 days. However, the first results are noticeable after just a few weeks!

In some individual cases, special attachments – small mounts that act as “pressure levers” – are added to help the aligners move the teeth more effectively in the desired direction. Just like with braces, after completing orthodontic treatment with aligners, it’s necessary to install individual retainers. A retainer serves as a “safety measure” to prevent further tooth shifting, since teeth move throughout our entire lives.

Of course, aligner treatment requires discipline and consistency – otherwise, achieving a successful result is impossible.
