Improperly performed previous endodontic treatment (missed canals, incompletely filled canals, “blind” root canal treatment without a microscope, etc.)
Poor-quality materials used during filling
Advanced untreated tooth decay over a long period
Incorrect prosthetic treatment (placement of a filling, prosthetic device, veneer)
Crown leakage (poor-quality materials used during prosthetic treatment, decay under the crown, or deterioration of the filling material)
Various allergic reactions in the body
Nerve death due to deep caries — the periodontium may respond with inflammation in such cases
Poor nutrition
Harmful habits
Various injuries to the bone system
Diabetes, which can also cause periodontium inflammation
Reduced overall immunity
Pain when biting down on the tooth
Possible tooth mobility
Unusual or uncomfortable sensation of the tooth’s position (feeling as if the tooth is higher in the gum or displaced)
Redness and swelling of the gums
Elevated body temperature
Chronic periodontitis is unique in that it often shows no noticeable symptoms and can only be detected on a dental X-ray. For this reason, it is very important to visit a specialist for regular check-ups and diagnostics to avoid missing such cases.
Chronic periodontitis may manifest as:
Formation of a loose-textured, reddish granuloma at the tip of the tooth root, gradually destroying the bone
Formation of a cyst (as a result of granuloma development) at the root tip
Formation of a fistula with pus inside
Visible gap on X-rays between the tooth root and the jawbone
Noticeable shadows on X-rays in the root area of unusual shape with clearly defined boundaries
Occasional, mild pain or discomfort that subsides quickly
Thanks to the “Sa-Nata” clinic’s advanced, innovative equipment, it is possible to detect such hidden, asymptomatic inflammations early, identify them at an initial stage, and begin timely treatment to prevent the condition from progressing to an advanced stage.
All procedures are performed under isolation using a rubber dam and with mandatory use of a Carl Zeiss microscope. The microscope allows thorough cleaning of the canals from previously placed filling material, helps locate additional canal systems, and provides complete visibility and control throughout the procedure.
A critical step is dense and high-quality obturation—filling the canals. At our clinic, we use a hot gutta-percha obturation system, which allows all branches and curves of the canal system to be completely filled.
After canal obturation, the next step is restoration with a durable and reliable sealing material.
X-ray control is of great importance—images are taken before treatment and after canal obturation, typically using computed tomography (CT). Additionally, a follow-up X-ray control is taken six months after pulp treatment, providing full monitoring and assessment of the bone condition.
