Splinting of teeth

Tooth splinting is a procedure aimed at strengthening the teeth, preventing them from loosening and mobility in the bone, as well as further tooth loss.  The splinting procedure also helps to strengthen and restore periodontal tissues.

Purpose of the procedure: to strengthen the teeth that have become loose for various reasons.  Thanks to the use of a special splint, a whole segment of a row of teeth is connected.  Due to this, the load is evenly distributed over the jaw.  This strengthens mobile teeth and prevents them from falling out.

In what cases is dental splinting recommended?

  • Presence of tooth mobility.
  • An advanced form of periodontal disease.
  • Exposed tooth root.
  • Visibly pronounced gingival pockets.
  • Violation of the dentition and tooth displacement.
  • Mechanical trauma to the teeth and jaw.

Benefits of the procedure:

  • Effectively eliminates abnormal tooth mobility.
  • Does not cause discomfort to the patient.
  • Has an aesthetic appearance.
  • Is an absolutely safe procedure.
  • Firmly and securely fixed on the teeth.
Benefits of the procedure:

There are 2 types of splinting:

 1) temporary splinting: teeth stabilization for up to 3 months with special temporary splints;  recommended after injury, for example.  It is also a stage of preparation for surgical treatment.

 2) permanent splinting: placed for a period of more than 1 year;  includes the use of removable dentures, special crowns, as well as non-removable special tapes, wires and fiberglass threads.

How does the permanent splinting process take place?  A horizontal furrow 0.5 mm deep is made on the inner surface of the teeth.  A one-piece fiberglass tape is placed in this special furrow and filled with a light composite.  The number of teeth that are taken into the splint depends on the complexity of the situation.  In addition to the most mobile ones, fixed teeth also must be taken into the splint.  The procedure, if necessary, can be carried out under local anesthesia and does not in any way impair the aesthetics of your teeth.

Tooth splinting is a modern dental method for preserving and preventing tooth loss.  This procedure is based on the strengthening of mobile teeth with a tire of various types for a certain period of time.

Stages of the splinting procedure:

1) Sanitation of the oral cavity, treatment of caries, pulpitis and other diseases.  Also, at the initial stage, professional oral hygiene is carried out.

 2) Treatment of the surface of the teeth, making a special furrow, with the help of which the structure will be installed in the future (a special fiberglass thread, for example).

 3) Trying on the splint, control of its functionality, correctness of shape, tight fixation and adherence to the surface of the teeth.

 4) Securing the structure with a special gel (dental glue).

 5) Application of a composite material, while partially covering the splint from the inside of the tooth surface.  Further, the implementation of the transillumination of the composite material with an ultraviolet lamp.

 6) The final stage: grinding the splint and composite material in order to exclude possible injuries to the mucous membrane and tongue.
